Day 13 - Hiking Thru the Snow Capped Mountains

I was up in time to see the sun rise over the ridge, and was thankful for the warmth of the glowing sun.

I hiked 4 miles to meet up with the reopened portion of the PCT and had a beautiful climb to the top.

The trail was delightfully snowy.

And I passed what may be a stargate.

I met a day hiker named Diane who was training to do a section of the John Muir Trail this summer.

This is her backyard.

This is her backyard.

I found a firetower at the summit.

And enjoyed the 360 degree view.

I hiked on and was grateful to have completed the detour and to be back on the trail.

So much snow!

So much snow!

I built a snowman.

Thumpity thump thump!

Thumpity thump thump!

And took an afternoon coffee break.

My spirits started to wane by late afternoon, but the spirit of the trail found ways to cheer me up.

I discovered a pine cone hotel.

And caught a couple of chipmunks plotting mischief.

Dale? Chip?!

Dale? Chip?!

Spirits revived, I soon found a campsite with a fire pit and enjoyed the warmth of the fire and the company of several hikers.
