Day 20 - The Sky Was On Fire

Today was one of those days that felt good on so many levels. The path was smooth, the temperature cool, the views spectacular and the company great.

I hiked on and off with my friends from the AT, sharing many fond memories and much laughter.

I also met Turtle Don, an 81 year old hiker who is doing about 40 days on the PCT this year.

He thru hiked the Appalachian Trail at the tender age of 70.

He was of very good humor and caught back up with me at Big Bear Lake around the time I filmed this video.

The view of the lake and the snowy mountains in the distance was breathtaking, so I enjoyed some food and relaxed while my eyes feasted on my surroundings.

I saw some rather creatively stacked rock art.

And a Siamese tree.

Or maybe they were just hugging.

The trail snaked thru pine forest and desert, undulating between these contrasting forms of beauty.

This spot had a little bit of both.

A rather striking black and blue bird let me take their picture.

They were sporting a rather spectacular hair do, too.

I slept upon the desert floor, comfortably nestled between two large boulders that shielded me from much of the passing wind.

The sky was on fire.
