I woke with a heart of gratitude and made some art with the food my friend GreenLite sent me in Independence.
I met him on the Appalachian Trail and visited him and his girlfriend, FirstGear last year on my music tour of the East Coast.
FirstGear is gearing up for a hike of the John Muir Trail and is raising money for a good cause. Check out her page here:
She is at 70% of her fundraising goal, please help her if you'd like to help out!
I hiked up To Mather Pass, along a grass laden trail.
And met this friendly marmot out on his morning patrol.
I enjoyed the shade of some pine trees and the refreshing streams that I frequented upon.
I climbed the pass with my friend Rambler, a painter with a kind and generous soul.
He's even moving to Asheville after the hike!
We hung out atop the pass and enjoyed some food and music.
We could feel the love.
We hiked down into the valley and then descended the "golden staircase," a long and steep descent that was being worked on by some forest service employees.
It was a breeze going down the "staircase," but there were just as many people going up.
I caught sight of a rather large body after reaching the valley.
I took this from a safe distance!
Here is Baloo scratching his back on a tree:
I hiked on and told my friends camping nearby of his presence and they caught a glimpse of this beautiful animal ambling through the woods.
I shared some music with friends camping near a stream and hiked on into the cool evening breeze.
