Day 99 - Boiling Springs Lake

We woke up to the sound of boiling water and a strong scent of sulphur. I was excited to explore this strange new world.

I was fascinated with the sights, sounds, and smells of this unique place.

There were swirls of smoke rising from many places along the surface of the lake.

What a place.

I hiked on, along some well constructed boardwalks near the Warner Valley Campground and Drakesbad Resort.

There was a brief climb up from the campground and then fairly flat trail the rest of the day.

We were looking forward to reaching Swan Lake, but it seemed to have had better days.

Very shallow and surrounded by dead trees.

The rest of the day was filled with fields of dead trees, remnants of a forest fire that blazed through the area.

I meditated on death and gave Britt a hug when I caught up to her. She'd been feeling it too.

I was soon reminded, though, that death is part of a cycle and gave several new pine trees high fives and well wishes for a prosperous life.

The next generation, rising from the ashes.

The gray skies afforded us a spectacular sunset, another reminder that how we look at things affects the way we feel.
